Trinity Western University Richmond first to offer graduate programs in the heart of growing international centre
Richmond may not be the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of Trinity Western University. But TWU Richmond offers programs specifically tailored to the needs and interests of learners in the thriving metropolis.
For nearly three years, the University has offered its Degree Completion programs for adult and international students in rented space in Richmond. But TWU Richmond opened the doors to its permanent space in September, offering TWU’s Master of Arts in Leadership program—the first graduate level program offered in the city.
“We are excited about the opportunity to develop programs that will meet the needs of people in and around Richmond,” says TWU Associate Provost, Philip Laird, Ph.D. “TWU has a strong history of collaborations with other educational experts in growing fields. Richmond is a thriving community, and we are a learning community that wants to grow with and learn from others as we lead Christian higher education in Canada.”
The Degree Completion program is designed for busy adults who are working full time, but understanding that the marketplace demands they need a degree. With one-night of classes per week, supplemented with online learning, the flexible program meets the needs of working adults who require an accessible location to help them pursue their goals.
“Not having a bachelor’s degree felt like I had unfinished business,” says Debbie Wilson, a marketing manager in the financial industry who earned her BA in Leadership in 2014. “The leadership degree program at TWU was the perfect solution. It gave me a learning plan that didn’t just fit into my schedule, it fit into my life.”
TWU Richmond’s programming offers the community’s emerging leaders a different higher education option, right in the heart of the city. The 20,000 square foot learning centre will serve an estimated 500-700 adult and international students annually. “Education is no longer limited to single-campus locations,” says Laird. “It’s about being accessible to people, meeting them where they are, and empowering them to move forward.”
As TWU expands its offerings of innovative programs, one thing that remains the same is its consistent recognition of quality. Time and again, Trinity Western University ranks among the top universities in Canada in Macleans’ Magazine’s report on the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and Canadian University Survey Consortium (CUSC) surveys.
Known for its transformational educational experience, Trinity Western University supports students more than just academically. The University’s caring faculty—who are among the top in their respective fields—also make themselves accessible to students both in and outside the classroom.
TWU’s focus on whole-person development helps prepare all of its students—from undergraduate to graduate to adult learner—to deal with a complex, dynamic, and changing society by equipping them with a broad knowledge of the wider world.
“When I enrolled in Trinity Western’s leadership program, my goal was to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree,” says Wilson. “What I received at the end of the program was so much more.”
With its mission firmly rooted in transformational education, Trinity Western is reaching into new markets to provide opportunities for students to access its top ranked Christian higher education. Whether it’s accessible learning spaces in city centres, graduate programs offered internationally, or online options customized for adult learners, TWU continues to enhance its offerings for today’s student.

We have all been created for relationship—the greatest relationship being with our Heavenly Father. People often discover, as they walk in relationship with Jesus, the desire to know Him personally grows more and more. Is there a way to mature in this calling to intimacy with God? In Samuel’s Mantle we will help you develop your God given abilities to feel what is on the Lord’s heart, to see what the Father is doing, and learn to hear His voice. The old saying is teachers long to teach, pastors long to mentor, evangelists long to win souls, and prophetic people long to hear the voice of the Lord. If the desire to hear the Lord is stirring in your heart Samuel’s Mantle would be a great place for you.
“I just want to thank you again for Samuels mantle. It brings me to tears to think how much it has changed my life and how I’ve experienced God and his love. I can’t wait for year 2 to start up!
Explore your Calling at Columbia Bible College
After high school, Ryan Newman was looking for a program that would bring together three things: the field of psychology, his faith, and an emphasis on community.
“I liked that Columbia Bible College was a smaller school,” he remembers. “It was more holistic, in the sense of growing a person spiritually and socially.” Ryan enrolled in Columbia’s Caregiving & Counselling BA, one of 11 accredited programs offered by the school, which grants certificates, diplomas, and degrees.
Ryan is convinced he made an excellent choice. In the classroom, Ryan appreciated how his professors emphasized both scientific findings and Christian theology.
Outside class, Ryan also discovered incredible learning opportunities. “The professors here are excellent,” he affirms. “I’ve been fortunate to build mentorship relationships with them and those have been tremendously helpful for personal and spiritual growth.” He also had the chance to gain practical experience. As part of his program, Ryan interned with Child & Youth Mental Health Services, solidifying his desire to become a clinical counsellor.
Columbia’s active campus life shaped Ryan too. This year he’s a student leader, serving as a commuter host. He plays on the varsity volleyball team. All that has added up to a lot of growth.
“I’ve grown spiritually and relationally. I have a deeper understanding of who God is. I’m starting to understand who I am as an image-bearer of God. That’s been a product of the community here at Columbia – the faculty, my classmates, my teammates.”
