Thanksgiving with The Hoppers
by Alan Phillips
If you want to experience some of the best in Southern Gospel with your family this Thanksgiving season, the incredible multi-award winning family group The Hoppers are coming through town to Evangel Church in Kelowna, and Chilliwack Alliance Church for the last concerts on their Canadian Thanksgiving Concert Tour 2018.
Known as America’s Favourite Family of Gospel Music, The Hoppers have been singing to global audiences for over 60 years throughout the United States and Europe, as well as in Israel and Africa with appearances ranging from a Reagan presidential inaugural celebration and New York’s Carnegie Hall to singing conventions and church platforms everywhere.
They are favourites on the Gaither Homecoming videos and tours, and their recordings frequently land at the top of the BILLBOARD sales charts and The Singing News radio charts. Their unique blend of harmonies and song choices have created a legacy of musical excellence and achieved widespread success with number one Southern Gospel hits including “Milk and Honey,” “Here I Am,” “Anchor to the Power of the Cross,” “Shoutin’ Time”, and ”Mention My Name”.
Comprised today of family members Claude & Connie, son Dean and his wife, Kim, and son Mike Hopper, The Hoppers were formed in 1957 in the rural-farm town of Madison, North Carolina, and have grown continuously for decades, touching countless lives around the world.
A cancer survivor, Connie has been honoured with the prestigious Marvin Norcross Award, in addition to numerous industry and fan honours; and she has been inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Sons Dean and Mike have continued the family legacy with their musical talents and business abilities; and Kim, Dean’s wife, hails from her own nationally acclaimed musical family, The Greenes. She is noted for the excitement she brings to any live performance, and her unmistakable, rafter-ringing soprano vocals have taken The Hoppers to new heights for many years.
Mark your calendars for Monday, October 15, 6:30 pm at Evangel Church, 3261 Gordon Avenue in Kelowna, and Tuesday, October 16, 7pm at Chilliwack Alliance Church, 8700 Young Road in Chilliwack.
