Narnia at Pacific Theatre
There’s something magical going on at Hemlock and 12th. Pacific Theatre is bringing back one of its most beloved Christmas shows: an enchanting two-person adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ classic tale The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. In this telling, Peter and Lucy are all grown up and heading home for Christmas, but on their way they can’t help but stop by that old house with the wardrobe. Their reminiscence quickly turns into a full scale re-enactment, as they relive all the wondrous moments and characters they encountered in their childhood adventure through Narnia.
“When Pacific Theatre first began to devise our staging of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, we knew we didn’t want to reduce the mighty, untamed Aslan to an actor in a lion suit,” says creator Ron Reed on the concept for the show. “We weren’t making a movie: we were creating theatre.”
Realizing that the magic of a fantasy story must live in the imagination of the audience, Reed decided to bring a simpler version of Narnia to the stage. One that tells the story, and lets the audience’s imagination step in. “That’s exactly how live theatre works: we depend on you to create a world with us,” explains Reed. Director Sarah Rodgers is ready for the challenge: “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was one of my favourite books growing up,” she says, “I am so thrilled to be guiding Ron Reed’s delightful adaptation.”
The Firs Noel is a great way to begin the Christmas season
Begin your Christmas season at The Firs! The Firs Noel will be offered for one evening only, on Saturday, December 1st, and will feature a performance by Greg Otterholt. You might recognize Greg from his many years of weather forecasting and as a news anchor for KVOS-TV. When KVOS-TV closed, Greg took that as an opportunity to take his freelance commercial, music, and marketing career full-time. During the week he runs Hook & Pan Productions, developing commercial and marketing campaigns for clients. He then puts on his performer hat as a voice-over artist, jingle singer/arranger, and occasional weekend concert entertainer. Greg’s music ranges from fun and comical tunes to more reflective…all intended to encourage and entertain. Bring your friends and family (ages 15 and up, please) to enjoy this delightful and inspirational evening.
The Firs Noel will take place at The Firs Retreat Center in Bellingham, WA, and will include a holiday banquet dinner, the performance by Greg Otterholt, and seasonal dessert, all in a wonderfully decorated, festive atmosphere. For those who’d like to spend the night or the entire weekend in beautiful Bellingham, a Christmas Bed & Breakfast option in a cozy private cottage will be available for either (or both!) Friday or Saturday evening. This can also be a wonderful opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas shopping – enjoy the Noel, stay overnight and take advantage of the 24-hour exemption at the border.
