Worship In Fort Langley at inaugural Torchlight Festival
by Kevin Pollard
It is hoped that thousands will close out the summer as they gather to worship with Phil Wickham, Building 429, Mack Brock and Vertical Worship, at the inaugural Torchlight Festival, Labour Day, September 2 in Fort Langley against the backdrop of the National Historic Site Fort.
The vision to bring back a Christian music festival to the Vancouver area, following in the footsteps of Sonfest in the 90’s and Praisefest in 2015/2016, became a reality for organisers, Red Door Events, thanks to their partnership with Trinity Western University.
Red Door’s Director Jonathan Houweling explains, “Trinity has been a key partner early on as they will have 1,000 students kick off their school year at Torchlight.”
The line up of artists include worship leader Phil Wickham, known for songs like “This is Amazing Grace”, “Your Love Awakens Me”, “You’re Beautiful” and “At Your Name (Yahweh, Yahweh)”. Wickham will not only share those favourites but will offer up songs from his latest album, Living Hope, including his latest single, “Till I Found You.’
GRAMMY® nominated, Dove Award-winning veterans, Building 429, will share their chart-topping radio hits like, “Where I Belong”, “We Won’t Be Shaken,” “Listen To The Sound” and “Glory Defined,” along with their brand new single, “Fear No More.”
Fresh off his opening spot on Hillsong United’s People Tour, Mack Brock, previously of Elevation Worship, who has been leading worship for over 15 years, will lead the festival in worship with his songs “O Come To The Altar,” “Resurrecting,” “Here As In Heaven,” and “Do It Again”. These songs have had a significant impact on the church worldwide. He will also share songs from his debut solo album, Greater Things. The title track already has 4 million Spotify plays.
Vertical Worship is a contemporary Christian worship collective comprised of worship leaders and songwriters from the Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago, Illinois. They will share songs from their newest album, Bright Faith Bold Future. Their songs include, “Open Up the Heavens,” “Spirit of the Living God,” “Exalted Over All,” “Lamb of God,” “Found in You” & their latest song, “Yes I Will.”
Along with the high calibre music, Torchlight will feature a curated selection of beverages, specialty food trucks, and local vendors and artisans, including family-friendly meals and vegan options.

A separate event is taking place at the same location, Aug 30 – Sep 1. It is billed as the Summerset Festival bringing in artists from a variety of genres, including Paul Brandt, April Wine, Rival Sons and many more.
Red Door Events is also putting on this event. Houweling says, “it started with Torchlight but as we considered the infrastructure needed to pull off an event of this calibre, we soon realized that back-to-back festivals could work as they will share things like staging, lighting, food vendors and volunteers.”
