Job Title: Dining Hall & Volunteer Coordinator

 

Reports to:  Food Service Manager

Work Location:            RockRidge Canyon, Princeton, BC

Position Purpose
RockRidge Canyon is a Young Life of Canada property in Princeton, British Columbia, owned and operated by Young Life for the purpose of reaching teenagers with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  It additionally functions as a conference and retreat center when not being used by Young Life.

The Dining Room Coordinator oversees the safe, effective and efficient operation of our four dining rooms; Pinnacle, Lakeview, Rimrock and Leadership Lodge. This includes the training, scheduling and supervising of Dining Hall Hosts and volunteer work crew.  The coordinator works closely with the Food Service Manager (FSM) to ensure a safe and timely delivery of each food service. The coordinator reports to the FSM for various set-up and take down tasks to provide a well run meal service, as well as coordinating with the Guest Services department to ensure any special requests have been met.

Young Life is a relational ministry. Incumbents must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff. Responding to the unexpected needs of the guest in a prompt and professional manner is important and required. All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community. This is a seasonal full time position from April – October and part time from November -March. ?

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership:

Model Christ in word and actions.
Model and promote Young Life’s mission, core values, and strategic plan.
Pray for kids, Young Life volunteers, and fellow Young Life staff.  Ensure that all ministry at RockRidge Canyon is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that flows from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Personal knowledge and experience of the saving work of Jesus Christ, pursuing personal spiritual growth and involved in a local church.
Dining Hall Oversight:

Must be a team player, possess a teachable attitude, have the ability to follow directions and able to give clear instructions and oversight to Dining Room staff, interns & volunteers
Ensure superior training of Work Crew, volunteers, and paid staff in their roles pertaining to dining hall service.
Ensure quality standards are maintained regarding organization, cleanliness and overall appearance of Dining Rooms, front pass in kitchen, furniture, and equipment.
Maintain standardized set up and take down, serving and bussing procedures for Dining Rooms.
Restock paper products, linens and cleaning supplies as needed
Act as a liaison between the kitchen staff and the Dining Room staff.
May at times be required to help with dishwashing and minor food preparation.
Committed to upholding Young Life Food Service Standards.
Maintain health and sanitation standards for Young Life Food Service that meet or exceed provincial government health codes.
Follow and enforce all safety protocols and procedures (FOODSAFE, WHMIS, MSDS)
Arrive at work on time, properly attired and prepared to work.
Flexibility in scheduling required to coincide with camps.
Work with the Come & Serve Hosts and Adult Guest Hosts as a liaison to the FSM and cooks.

Volunteer Coordination:

Oversee the overall volunteer program through recruitment, housing, communication, landing, free time and thank you gifts for adult short-term volunteers, YL short term/summer Work Crew and the Come & Serve program.

Young Life Summer Camping:

Organize, track and support recruitment of the Adult Volunteers and Come & Serve programs.
Train and support Work Crew Bosses.
Support FSM in meal count charts and dietaries.
Team Duties and Responsibilities:

Model open communication and work collaboratively with the property staff team and the Young Life staff team in support of Young Life’s mission, core values and strategic plan.
Must be able to work well with people of all ages but in particular youth and seniors.
Engage with and foster healthy relationships with the property staff team.
Attend devotionals and staff meetings.
Nourish a truthful, accountable, forgiving, joyful, and healthy work culture.
Personal and Professional Development:

Pursue opportunities to further grow and develop ability and capacity through professional development training as directed or approved by the Food Service Manager.
Dress Code:

In the Pinnacle Dining Room and Lakeview, clean jeans (with no tears or holes)  are typically fine but a loose fitting stretch pant is preferred. Sweatpants are not allowed. Closed toed shoes are mandatory and non-slip footwear is preferred.  We will provide a RRC serving shirt for regular meal service.
In Wolfe Creek Lodge, black pants and black shoes must be worn for all meals. We will provide a RRC serving shirt for regular meal service.
In the event of a formal dinner, you will be required to supply and wear a white shirt or blouse (not a sweatshirt) with black pants and black shoes.
Hair must be pulled back, minimal jewelry, clean hands, no nail polish.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:

High school diploma required.
Experience in hospitality is an asset, in particular serving in a restaurant or working in a commercial kitchen.
Knowledge, understanding and experience in Young Life or other youth ministry is an asset.
Experience in not-for-profit or public organizations is beneficial.
Management experience is beneficial.
Skills:

Strong ethical, Christ-like character.
Model responsible work habits, effective servant-leadership and stewardship.
Strong communication skills.  Diplomatic and tactful.
Integrity to deal with sensitive or confidential material and situations.
Abilities:

Results oriented coupled with ability to work with a diverse team.  Able to work under pressure.
Intermediate proficiency in a Google Team Drive based operating environment.
Experience with any of the following applications are an asset: Constant Contact or Mailchimp, Jot Forms, CampBrain.
Other requirements:

Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Must be willing to relocate to Princeton, BC.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract required.
Able to work a flexible schedule according to seasonal operating requirements.
Current clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search required as a condition of employment.
Work Conditions
Work Location:

Work is performed in a rural camp setting.
Physical Requirements:

The employee is required to look at a computer screen and use a keyboard for up to 30% of the time.
The employee is required to see, talk and hear.
This position requires the employee to lift up to 50lbs.
Work Conditions:

Work is deadline driven.
Work is seasonal and at times there will be large volumes of work to undertake.
Hours of Work:

Flexible hours of work based on the needs of the rental groups and the YL summer program.  5 days per week.
Hazards:

Hazards are considered minor and controllable.
