Position Purpose
RockRidge Canyon is a Young Life of Canada property located in Princeton, British Columbia, owned and  operated for the purpose of reaching teenagers with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It also functions as a  Christian conference and retreat centre when not being used by Young Life.

RockRidge Canyon is committed to providing “intentional hospitality” to our guests. This means working  to consistently exceed the expectations of our guests in quality of service, facilities, and overall  experience.

Site & Facilities

Reporting to the Site and Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Technician performs repairs and  maintenance on all RockRidge Canyon buildings, equipment and grounds in a manner consistent with the  quality standard of Young Life.

S&F believe we are working to hold off the effects of the fallen world from the property & buildings at Rockridge Canyon, stewarding the camp as if it were a little piece of the Hereafter, so that teens can come and hear the Gospel and better imagine the hope in resurrection.

Key Responsibilities
Spiritual Leadership

Model Christ in word, deed and actions.
Model and promote Young Life’s mission and values. Represent Young Life positively and  professionally within the community.
Provide spiritual leadership to direct reports and volunteers, if applicable.
Pray for kids, Young Life volunteers, and fellow Young Life staff. Ensure that all ministry at  RockRidge Canyon is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that flows from a  personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Personal knowledge and experience of the saving work of Jesus Christ, pursuing personal spiritual  growth and involved in a local church.
Scope of Responsibilities

With an emphasis on the area of plumbing and mechanical, but including in general; manage and maintain infrastructure, buildings, plumbing & mechanical systems, electrical systems, machinery and equipment to a standard so as to provide good service, long life, and responsible stewardship. Adhere to RRC safe operating procedures and ensure that safety for all workers (including yourself) and campers / guests is priority one.
Work as part of a team to ensure that camp is a safe and productive work area for others.
Complete routine building maintenance work including regular systems inspections and reporting, trouble-shooting failures, regulatory inspections, reporting, and repairs for water and wastewater systems, seasonal pool operation and maintenance, and other related maintenance projects.
From time to time assist with construction and maintenance projects and project supervision, both in and out of trade expertise.
Ensure proactive care to all exterior and interior areas.
Repair all building systems and equipment.
Carry out routine and preventive maintenance including adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, refrigeration, ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems.
Consistently inspect and ensure that security and safety measures are in place.
Implement or carry out a Preventative Maintenance (PM) program as assigned by the Site and Facilities    Manager  to keep the buildings and property in top condition. Aim to minimize interference with scheduled  camp operation.
Respond to emergency trouble calls in a timely fashion when on shift, and when on call as scheduled by the Manager.
Assist the grounds team as required with mowing, irrigation, snow clearing and maintenance of  recreational facilities (e.g., pond hockey rink, etc.).
Assist program team and outdoor crew in summer with program requirements.
Advise the Site and Facilities Manager of upcoming major maintenance expenses.
Ensure that the environment (air, water, vegetation, soil, and wildlife) is respected in maintenance  decisions.
Help coordinate supply and/or receipt of equipment, materials, and volunteers for projects as  requested.
Any other duties as assigned by the Site and Facilities Manager.
Record Keeping and Purchasing

Operate within the constraints of the budget.
Forward all invoices to the Site and Facilities Manager in a timely manner.
Maintain a list of projects to be undertaken as time and money become available.
Contribute to keeping maintenance logs, service records, condition assessments, and inventory for all camp assets including  all buildings (paint chart, recurring problems, major maintenance work, etc.) kitchen, vehicles,  machinery, and fire and safety equipment.
Contribute to keeping an accurate inventory of all equipment and shop / construction supplies.
File all warranty papers and manuals / info for vehicles and equipment.
Ensure that construction projects comply with all regulatory agencies, and all provincial and local  license and permit requirements.
Team Duties and Responsibilities

Model open communication and work collaboratively with the property staff team and the Young  Life staff team in support of and compliance with Young Life’s mission, core values and strategic plan. • Engage with and foster healthy relationships with the property staff team.
Attend devotionals and staff meetings.
Nourish a truthful, accountable, forgiving, joyful, and healthy work culture.
Provide positive, professional, effective leadership, training and supervision of volunteers, summer staff, interns and casual Site and Facilities employees as directed, ensuring that they clearly understand the scope of their responsibilities, safety concerns, and  performance standards. Provide feedback designed to improve performance and assist them as  required to ensure success.
Personal and Professional Development

Pursue opportunities to learn through books, podcasts, courses, travel to other camps, etc.
Remain current concerning new certifications as needed, and with new procedures, trends, or equipment by reviewing literature or  through participating in professional development courses, seminars, or conferences as directed by or approved by the Site and Facilities Manager.
General Expectations

Young Life is a relational ministry. Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and  concern for guests and staff. Responding to the unexpected needs of our guests in a prompt and  professional manner is important and required.

Maintain a positive attitude and a friendly, professional manner to create a warm, welcoming  atmosphere.
Observe and report unsafe work conditions to the relevant manager.
Reply to radio calls professionally and respond to requests quickly and efficiently.
Operate property vehicles safely; respect all signage, including speed limits and parking.
All employees must dress professionally and comply with safety standards set by the Site and  Facilities Manager.
In the event of an emergency, established policies and procedures will be followed. All Staff are expected to work together to ensure a coordinated response under the leadership of the Property  Manager.
Qualifications
Spiritual

Personal knowledge and experience of the saving work of Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.
Involvement in a local church.
Agreement with Young Life’s Statement of Faith.
Submission to Young Life’s Mission, Vision, and Values and Code of Conduct.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 5 years recent plumbing related experience required.
Experience in a plumbing maintenance or construction position in large commercial or institutional buildings, or other Young Life camps a strong asset. Will consider others who have equivalent skills and experience.
General Qualifications

A team player committed to helping others succeed.
Takes initiative – a ‘self-starter’ – and committed to finishing the work at hand in a quality manner.
Focused and organized.
Good oral communication skills. Able to receive, understand and carry out oral and written  instructions. Requests clarification when needed.
Effective time manager able to juggle multiple responsibilities.
Able to inspect, assess, and determine repair requirements, and perform minor repairs  for heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation, with skills in plumbing, hvac, and electrical systems.
Good knowledge of painting, dry-wall repair, and the basics of carpentry and the ability to complete  these tasks to a high standard.
Current knowledge of WCB regulations.
Familiarity with building fire and safety regulations and procedures.
Familiarity with the national or provincial building code.
Training and Certification

A red-seal technical qualification certificate in the Plumbing trade.  Equivalent “real-world” ability and competence will also be considered. Gas / Sprinkler / Pipe-Fitter certifications are assets.
WHIMS, Confined Space, Working at Heights training are assets.
Standard (Level I) First Aid certification, CPR-C and AED are assets.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean Driver’s Abstract or equivalent.
Clean criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search, required as a condition of  employment.
Work Conditions
Work Location

Work is performed in a rural camp setting.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
Physical Requirements

Duties require extended periods of standing and/or walking. Duties require occasional periods  of climbing, pulling/pushing items, lifting/carrying items, keyboarding, reaching with hands and  arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs regularly.
The employee is required to see, talk and hear, and communicate technical information in English.
Work Conditions

Regular environmental exposures to cold, heat, snow, rain, dust, and water. Will work outside & inside in 4 seasons, including summer & winter time.
The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple  concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position.
Hours of Work

The work week is 40 hours.
Long days and/or nights can be expected from time to time.
On-call work is required. Some weekend or evening work may be required. Moderate extratime  may be required.  Extratime will be taken as time in lieu with manager’s approval.
