Sarah was a quiet girl with long curly hair and beautiful green eyes, who loved snow. When she prayed for snow for her birthday the year she turned 12, it didn’t seem weird, except her birthday is in April, typically a month of showers and flowers. But that year it snowed for just one day – on Sarah’s birthday!
Sarah Therese (Therese is her middle name) grew up in a homeschooling family with a dad who led them with daily Bible readings, and sometimes sermons as well! Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, by Jonathan Edwards, was one sermon that particularly impacted her walk with the Lord, a walk which had begun by faith in Christ as a young girl. She doesn’t remember praying a specific prayer, but at the age of seven remembers sharing with her Dad how much she loved Jesus – in the parking lot of the grocery store, in fact – and him stopping right there to rejoice over it.
With three siblings, life was busy, just learning and living side by side, so by the time Sarah was 14 years old, she yearned to do something different and unique. She enjoyed photography, which led to creating tutorial videos for hair and makeup, delighting to discover this was something she loved to do! So it began, every morning – once breakfast, devo’s, chores, and schoolwork were done – she would focus on creating content for her vlog, just for fun, acquiring skills and honing her talent along the way…watching with surprise and delight as her viewer numbers began to grow. And grow.
In 2011 Sarah launched her first YouTube channel and by 2020 had 1 million subscribers on @SarahTherese, eventually acquiring over 121 million views across both channels: @SarahTherese and @SarahTherese.Co.
Morphing with Sarah as she grew and matured, her content has focussed on beauty, marriage, birth, babies (she has five children), homeschooling, cooking, and currently enjoying a wide spectrum of recipes, with a specialty in all things sourdough – don’t be fooled – it’s not just bread! Along the way, Sarah shares her love for organization, minimalism, thrifting, homemaking, and God. A recurring scene in her content is her well underlined Bible spread open beside a steaming mug of yummy latte her husband, Kieran, makes for her.
Kieran quit his job as an electrician to come on board with @SarahTherese after baby number three was born. Realizing she could not be the mom she wanted to be for her children while simultaneously creating content, homeschooling, and being a housewife, Sarah asked him to stay home and help. Shouldering the load together has worked well for them, giving them both more opportunity to enjoy the kids, each other, and God’s grace.
Sarah loves hearing from Christian women around the world who follow her and have commented on how encouraged they are to see her living her life as godly wife and mom, prioritizing daily devo’s and Bible study.
Marta Davis, a young mom with her first baby, struggling through Covid and lockdowns and discouraged by the general content of programs and media, started watching @SarahTherese. Sarah’s authenticity appealed to her, and even though Marta had previously had no Christian influence in her life she was inspired by Sarah and other Christian mom vloggers raising their children in the faith. She knew she wanted that for her own family. Marta began attending church. Soon she was convicted of her sins, confessing them to God and asking for His forgiveness. Trusting in Jesus’ sacrifice for her, she became a part of God’s family. Today she has three children, 5yrs, 2yrs, and 9mo.s old, is a stay-at-home mom, and seeks to raise her children for God.
Marta’s testimony and others like it are direct fruit from Sarah’s desire to practice Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
In an online world saturated with “fake people” and “their fake perfect lives” seen through the forgiving and blurry lens of a camera, it is easy to be critical and wonder, “What’s REAL?” But let’s not “throw the baby out with the bathwater” by rejecting content that seeks to uphold and promote the good and wholesome plan God has intended for our lives, resulting from seeking Him and His righteousness. This dark and shadowy world needs more truth and light, not less.
If you follow Jesus, then you are called to join Sarah as an ‘Influencer for Christ’ in whatever it is He has prepared and given you to do! (Ephesians 2:10)
