Do You Know Someone Who is Living With Cancer?
Victoria’s Quilts Canada (VQC) is an all-Canadian not-for-profit charity that makes and delivers hand-made quilts to people in Canada living with cancer. By providing these quilts, we hope to bring physical comfort to those dealing with cancer, as well as spiritual comfort in knowing they are not alone in their struggle.
Quilts are delivered by volunteers, or mailed if there is not a volunteer group (called a branch) nearby. Some comments from the many thank you cards that we receive:
“I wanted to send a heartfelt thank you for the beautiful quilt!! Cancer is hard and little gestures like this make a difficult time better”
“Illness and suffering are much easier to bear when one feels the love and support from others, including complete strangers”
“Despite family and friends, the cancer journey is still a lonely and frightening one. Thank you so much for making me feel my life is valued.”
There is no cost to the person who requests the quilt or to the recipient; the lap size quilts (50×70 inches +/-2 inches) are completely free.
VQC receives no government funding and operates entirely through donations and the fund-raising efforts of our branches. VQC has no paid staff – we are all volunteers, over 1500 volunteers across Canada. Even after 25 years and over 112,000 quilts delivered, many people still don’t know about VQC. So many people are diagnosed with cancer in Canada every day, and we know, through the beautiful messages sent by recipients and their families, what comfort our quilts bring as people go through treatments. We would like to reach out and bring comfort to as many people living with cancer as possible. So, if you know of someone who is living with cancer, and you think that one of our quilts would bring them comfort, please go on the VQC website https://victoriasquiltscanada.com and request a quilt for them. It’s like giving them a hug.
