Food for Thought: He Restores My Soul

August 20, 2024 by Jan Stefanic Leave a Comment

he restores my soul

“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness, For His name’s sake” Psalm 23:3

I don’t know about you, but I sure could use some soul restoration right now. Some days it is hard to focus on peace with all the things that are happening in this world. So much fear and so many threats, if I didn’t have my faith to hold on to I’m not sure if my mind could handle all the negative and fear based craziness.

This particular verse resonated with me this morning, sometimes my mind wonders all over the place and I become restless and anxious. Now I understand how shepherds guard and guide their sheep when they wonder off!

But there is something very soothing and comforting about the whole scripture, especially “He restores my soul”. I believe these beautiful words have deeply impacted me, particularly on really difficult days.

There is an immediate switch to mediate and rest, knowing that I ‘m sitting in His presence and envisioning his beauty and countenance. My mind calms and my body and soul rests, we get so wearied by world events at times we become mentally and physically exhausted.  He gently guides us back to a place of peace. His words never lose their power or significance. I need and want his reassurance and he continues to leads me into the way of his everlasting grace and peace, righteousness, and love.

God also uplifts my spirit, when I tend to get side-tracked with a gazillion thoughts that can take me in many different directions. I’m an analyser, it’s been part of my career but overthinking can bring fears and doubts that cost way too much. Instead of stillness and His grace, I can create anxiousness which defeats the very thing He restores. His simple truths bring me back to a restored soul and spirit and nothing can compare to that.

Anxiety and fear settle, my hope prevails and like a good and loving shepherd he guides me back onto the path of righteousness.

Dear and Loving Father: Thank you for your deep care for me in every area of my life, soul, body, mind and spirit.

I’m grateful when I stray off the chosen path you have for me you gently guide me back home. “Even though I may walk in the valley of the shadow of death you are with me and comfort me”, I shall not be afraid. Amen, Shalom
