We are currently seeking a Community Support & Addiction Recovery Coordinator to join our team at GMHS and Sunset Towers (Downtown Vancouver) in a part-time capacity. Reporting to the Director of Healthcare, The Community Support & Addiction Recovery Coordinator will provide a continuum of care through addiction recovery support services for individuals with a minimum of 90 days sobriety to assist them to become independent of the A/R program and also provide consultative social support for individuals and/or families who have been socially excluded or who are experiencing crisis by providing support that enables tenants to help themselves.

This position is a in-person role and expected to work 20 hours per week + casual hours as needed. This position requires availability on Thursday (4 hours), Friday (8 hours), and Saturday (8 hours).

What you will be doing

Tenant Relations

Research community resources that will aid tenants in personal &/or professional growth
Assist tenants with life skills like cleaning, budgeting, etc. where appropriate
Encourage tenant interaction and participation through community events, volunteer opportunities and the like
Facilitate and support community development and tenant interaction
Listen to specific concerns of tenants
Liaise between community and local services
Encourage compliance with ‘house rules’ and tenancy agreement terms, and deal with conflict resolution as necessary:
personally if possible without jeopardizing your relationship with the tenants
involve the property manager when personal interaction fails
involve the VCHA staff, executive director &/or the board of directors through the property manager as a final step
be ‘on call’ during the week to help tenants as required
Addiction Recovery Support

Establishing a positive relationship with all program tenants
Meeting regularly with program participants one on one and in group settings where appropriate
Facilitating tenant-led addiction recovery support activities where appropriate
Establishing a peer support network within the building
Receiving and orienting all incoming referrals and facilitating departures
Managing all tenancy issues in conjunction with property management staff and the building manager
Observe and assess program participants in their environments, and watch for signs of relapse, unsafe conditions, behavioral, physical, and/or cognitive changes. Recommend intervention when needed
Liaise with VCHA clinical support staff
File monthly reporting requirements to VCH
Working with tenants to achieve their personal development goals
Planning, coordinating and delivering recreational opportunities and social functions with program participants.
Working closely with building management to plan, co-ordinate and integrate program participants into the life and activity of the wider tenant community
Assisting individuals with medical appointments and related support duties
Maintaining appropriate files and records and archive as required
As required, review, establish and/or develop specific program guidelines, policies and practices
Community Support

Conduct interviews with tenants (individuals &/or families) to assess and review their situation where/when social service support is required
Work with tenants to achieve their personal development goals
Meet regularly with tenants one on one or in group settings where appropriate
Research and develop links with appropriate community resources that will aid tenants
Liaise with, and make referrals to, local support services, mental health and addiction services, as well as other relevant community services
Research community resources that will aid tenants in personal &/or professional growth
Offer solution focused counseling, information and referral services to tenants and/or their families
What You Bring

Experience in counseling and social services
Completion of a post-secondary education program in the field of social service or mental health.
Understanding addiction recovery and mental health support for adults, seniors, youth, children and families
Knowledge base of social determinants of health, income and Aboriginal or immigrant status
Core Competencies in personal effectiveness, communication, results oriented, teamwork, service Oriented
an understanding of, and be able to participate in the delivery of, all aspects of our Schedule “A” responsibilities as outlined in our MOU and Operating Agreements as reviewed from time to time.

Working Conditions

MTR employees work closely with members in the vulnerable sector, both within our client base and with the general public. There may be exposure to abuse (verbal or physical), encounters with individuals in unsanitary conditions, and interactions with individuals experiencing emotional issues or vicarious trauma.
