LifeCanada produces first-ever life-affirming comic book

January 2, 2024 by P R Leave a Comment

LifeCanada National has produced a 36-page full-colour graphic novel for pre-teens and teenagers from a life-affirming perspective entitled called The Gift. It is the first volume in a proposed series of pro-life comic books called Life Choices. The first round of distribution begins this fall.

13,000 infants are born to adolescent parents each year in Canada, and about ten times that number in the United States. Research shows that the adolescent pregnancy and parenting experience is full of life-long challenges.

LifeCanada has developed a targeted comic book that addresses the perils of teen pregnancy from the perspective of two regular teens who date in high school and become pregnant. Their choices – adoption, abortion, or raise the child – are dramatized realistically. Each chapter focuses on a different choice and how it impacts their lives, their families’ lives, and the life of the unborn child. The innovative book will entertain and educate today’s pre-teens and teens on the importance of family relationships while emphasizing the pro-life perspective.

The goal of the Life Choices series is to provide pathways for the next generation to address the complicated and ethically challenging situations of their day. These narratives are anchored in the Christian worldview and guide the reader to delve deeply into these hotly contested issues and ultimately present the choice for life as the only real choice.

Over 90 million copies of comic books and graphic novels were sold in the United States in 2021. The demand for graphic narratives is strong, making The Gift an ideal complement to the teaching of churches, youth groups, and Christian and Catholic schools. LifeCanada will publish 50,000 copies to distribute to pro-life groups, churches, and schools free of charge by the end of the year.

In the spring of 2024 LifeCanada will create a second volume of the Life Choices series that focuses on medically assisted death. Told from the perspective of a high school student whose friend has recently become permanently disabled by a car accident, the high school class is conflicted about the future of their classmate.
