This Christmas, we remember the miracle that changed all of history, God became a child. The Saviour of the world entered humanity not with fanfare from kings, but as a tiny baby formed in His mother’s womb. From the very first moment, God affirmed the value of life.
Jesus was blessed at conception when the angel Gabriel declared His identity and purpose before He was even formed, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.” (Luke 1:31). This blessing answers the identity question, “Am I welcome?” God’s answer to that first critical question was yes, you are wanted, you are chosen. He was blessed in the womb when Mary visited Elizabeth. In that holy encounter, John the Baptist leapt with joy while still unborn, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit: “As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.” (Luke 1:44). Every unborn child longs for the answer, “Is there a safe place for me ?”
He was blessed at birth as heaven could not contain its celebration. Angels filled the sky and announced the good news of His arrival to shepherds watching their flocks, “Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:11). Every newborn child is asking the question, “Will my needs be met?” Families are called to demonstrate that kind of love.
A Call to Cherish Life From Conception
Scripture reveals God’s heart for every child: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5). Life in the womb is sacred, and life at birth is to be celebrated and protected. Yet today, disturbing late-term abortion practices continue in our nation. Viral videos circulating across Canada have exposed the hidden darkness of this industry and the lies that have surrounded it for years. This is not simply a political issue. It is a spiritual battle over identity and destiny of a new generation. Even in the Christmas story we see Herod’s attempt to destroy the children of Bethlehem (Matthew 2:16), trying to snuff out the promise of Christ before it could fully emerge.
A Positive Shift in Alberta
There is encouraging news. Recently, Alberta’s UCP members voted overwhelmingly against taxpayer-funding for late-term abortions. This follows the revelation by pro-life advocates that late-term abortion is happening right here in Canada. It represents the first significant pro-life policy breakthrough in years, a hopeful step toward changes and a message to federal leadership that Canadians care about vulnerable lives.
A Christmas Challenge for Our Nation
At Christmas, we remember that light broke into the world in the most unlikely way – a Child born in Bethlehem. That same light is urgently needed in Canada today. We are living in a moment marked by confusion, fear, and cultural darkness. The birth of Jesus is not just a nostalgic story; it is a declaration that God still steps into nations and turns them toward hope. This season calls us to open our eyes, reject passivity, and invite the Light of Christ to shine boldly again in our land.
Every child whether peacefully sleeping in a crib or hidden and growing in the womb is a miracle entrusted to us by God. Yet our nation has drifted into a dangerous place where the value of life is debated instead of celebrated. Christmas challenges us to recover wonder. It challenges us to build a culture where every child is welcomed, protected, and seen as a gift from Heaven with a purpose planned long before they take their first breath. If Christ came as a baby to save the world, then every baby matters.
Families are the backbone of a healthy nation, and they are under pressure like never before. Masculinity is confused, motherhood is undervalued, and marriage is too often discarded like an option rather than a covenant. But we believe Canada can rise. We believe men can rise as fathers who take responsibility, speak blessing, model courage, and call out identity and destiny in their sons and daughters. Christmas points us back to a stable where a young family trusted God together. That picture invites us to rebuild the foundation of our homes with faith, love, and unwavering commitment.
This Christmas, let us choose to live differently. Let us refuse to surrender our nation to despair or brokenness. Let us be people who walk in the Light who defend life, strengthen families, honour God, and call Canada to its true destiny. From sea to sea, may this season awaken a generation that refuses to settle for darkness when the Light of Christ has already come.
